Where and what to do

100 block deweyWhether you're a resident or visitor from out the city, county, or even state - this area is ripe with opportunities to experience why Poteau is a great place to visit for the day or longer with your friends and family.

Within the city limits of Poteau itself, you'll find the "World's Highest Hill" - Cavanal Hill sitting at 1,999 feet tall with panoramic views of Leflore County, home of the Annual 8K Cavanal Killer. While in Poteau make time to stop by the Leflore County Museum, in historic downtown Poteau, located in the former Hotel Lowrey.  After catching up on the history of Leflore County, be sure to make time for a round of golf at either of Poteau's local golf courses - the Choctaw Country Club and Wolf Ridge Country Club

Just outside of Poteau you'll find numerous historical points of interest that not only display the beauty of this area but show a glimpse into Oklahoma pre-land rush like the Spiro Mounds as well as the Heavener Runestone. If you'd rather be spending time in or near the water you can't help but make the short drives to Wister Lake, and Long Lake Resort. During the fall season, you'll be hard pressed to find a more breath-taking excursion then driving on the Tallemena Scenic Drive.
